The energy sector in Mexico was recently liberalised meaning that for the first time in nearly 80 years, international companies were able to bid for acreage in Mexican waters. Block 5 in Mexico is situated offshore in moderate water depths in the Sureste Basin, Gulf of Mexico. Ophir is part of a Murphy-operated consortium which also includes PC Carigali (part of Petronas) and Sierra Oil & Gas.
